Congressman Morgan McGarvey Announces 2024 Congressional Art Competition
WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 12, 2024) – Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey (KY-03) announced the launch of the Congressional Art Competition for high school aged students in Kentucky’s Third Congressional District.
“It’s no surprise to anyone that Louisville high schoolers are incredibly talented,” said Rep McGarvey. “Every year, the Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to showcase this talent and highlight the many gifted young artists in our city. I’m excited to announce the launch of this year’s competition, and I’m looking forward to seeing the winning piece—a little reminder of my hometown—every time I walk to the Capitol.”
The annual bipartisan Congressional Art Competition celebrates the artistic achievements of our nation’s high school students. The winning artwork from each congressional district hangs in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol for one year. The U.S. House of Representatives’ 441 Representatives and Delegates rush through this tunnel every day the House is in session, to vote on a bill or attend a key committee hearing, while the House’s 6,000 staffers take millions of visitors and constituents through this tunnel annually. Having a piece of artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol is a significant achievement for any artist.
Interested parties should complete the 2024 3rd District Congressional Art Competition submission form by April 22nd.
The artwork must be two-dimensional. Each framed artwork can be no larger than 26 inches high, 26 inches wide, and 4 inches deep. If your artwork is selected as the winning piece, it must arrive in Washington, D.C., framed. Even when framed, it must still measure no larger than the above maximum dimensions. No framed piece should weigh more than 15 pounds.
